Book Review! The Fight of Our Lives, by William J. Bennett & Seth Leibsohn

Hmmm, blogger is not letting me put up the image for this book right now -- perhaps it will sort itself out shortly. In the meantime, let us press on.

The Fight of Our Lives is a book that will be a little difficult for me to review. I agree with some of it and disagree with some of it. The basic premise is that America has become befuddled in regard to its fight against terrorism - namely the terrorism wrought by radical Islamists. The authors compare the rhetoric heard immediately after the 9/11 horror with the steady backing off/backing down speeches we are far more likely to hear today.

While on the surface I heartily agree with the authors' position, they do come off as believing (or trying to have us believe) the old "our government would never do anything to hurt its own citizens" story when they pooh-pooh the "truthers'" suspicions. That seems a little on the naive side for someone positioned the way Mr. Bennett has been. That put me off the book a little.

What I did agree with in particular is the lunacy of trying to placate and appease such an enemy and the folly of accepting as "moderate Muslims" such people as have clear and definite ties to organizations which call for the death of America. If that's moderate, I'd hate to see radical.

Overall, I think the book is worth reading, if only to get us thinking again about right and wrong, strength and weakness, wisdom and folly.

I reviewed this book for the booksneeze.com blogger book review program and received a free copy of the book in exchange for my honest review. I am happy to disclose this in keeping with the law.
