Be the People, by Carol M. Swain BOOK REVIEW

Books like Be the People, by Carol M. Swain, can go different directions. They can encourage the American people to remember their roots and the qualities that in the past made America wonderful, or they can go off on a scary tangent, intimating that spirituality - religion - should be legislated.

I wasn't sure at first which way Dr. Swain would go with this particular book, but I was happy to discover that she pretty well avoided the "let's make everyone go to church on Sunday by law" sort of thinking that would certainly be the final death knell of the nation's freedom.

I greatly appreciated Dr. Swain's views on the issue of abortion. Not many people, particularly in her position, have the courage to stand up and call this horror the crime that it is. Dr. Swain also addresses the hot topic of immigration and she calls a spade a spade in this area as well.

Rather than leave us horrified and angry about the things that are going so terribly wrong in America, however, Dr. Swain includes ideas after each chapter about things people can do to further explore the topics she addresses and do something about what they believe.

I believe I will donate this book to my local public library so the people in my community can read it too.

I reviewed Be the People as part of the booksneeze.com blogger book review program and received a free copy of the book for my honest review. I'm disclosing this because I'm supposed to!
